PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

KAMUSHANGA AND NAKOLI

‘Assuredly, I say to you,

inasmuch as you did it to

one of the least

of these My brethren,

you did it to Me.’  (Matthew 25:40)

Vision

To establish learning institutions where called, committed and discipled Christian teachers will dedicate their lives to develop the whole child (mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally) through character development, discipleship and excellence. Thus we will see transformed individuals releasing God’s blessings upon their homes, families and communities. 1 Cor 2:9 No eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

MISSION

School Buildings: To build the necessary classrooms with the help of the communities, so that they will take pride in their schools and keep on adding new structures every year to ensure that the schools will keep up with the growing demands of the community.

Outreaches: To regularly take the children on outreaches to broaden their worlds and to encourage skilled outreaches from other parts of the world to help with the in-service training of the existing teachers.

Prayer: That schools will become places where children, parents and teachers will come together to pray for their communities.  Prayer will also be mobilized for the schools and their communities from other parts of the world. This will be done by means of a newsletter.

Quality Education:  To be committed to adult literacy, grade 7 and 9 external exams of the underprivileged and the teaching of English to children, parents and guardian in the community.

GOALS

  For Spiritual Development:

To disciple teachers, children and parents into a Biblical worldview once they have accepted the message of salvation.
Training teachers, children and parents to meet God’s standard of excellence in all areas of their lives. (Daniel 6:3 and Col 3:23-24).
To help the children develop a biblical character so that they will become Godly men and women. Once a week we conduct Good News clubs at the schools, aimed specifically at character development. (Proverbs 11:3).
Having a full-time social worker to deal with social cases amongst the neglected children in the communities.

For Physical Development:

To provide a balanced meal for each child during the week.
Through the Ubabalo life skills training one afternoon in the week, we increase the children’s physical and spiritual growth.

For Mental Development

Ÿ         To serve the community through adult literacy classes, where parents and guardians who cannot read can learn to do so. Teaching English to parents and guardians and others in the community has been identified as another great need.

Ÿ         To serve the community by teaching grade 7 afternoon classes to young school leavers of the community.

Ÿ         Creating a special needs class where children with learning disabilities can be effectively taught by a qualified teacher.

Ÿ         Establish reading clubs (amongst the children) in the community.

NEEDS ADDRESSED

Ÿ         Excellence in the Education of neglected and orphaned children.

Ÿ         Spiritual growth of children and teachers and parents.

Ÿ         In-service training of teachers.

Ÿ         Addressing malnutrition in the communities.

Ÿ         Relieving boredom amongst the youth in the communities through the soccer clubs (Ubabalo).

Ÿ         Training the teachers into their roles and responsibility within the community.

Ÿ         Improving the standard of English in the schools.

Ÿ         Addressing the need for adults to read and write

Ÿ         Addressing the need for adults to speak and read and write good English.

Ÿ         Addressing the need to provide a furnish education within the community.

Ÿ         The need of children with learning disabilities will be addressed

Ÿ         Social injustices against children will be addressed.

Ÿ         Reading clubs can dispel ignorance, improve scholastic ability and widen their world views.

Impact on Community

Ÿ         Children and other young adults are educated, given a hope and a future through better education.

Ÿ         Discipling of children, teachers and parents / guardians - spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally.

Ÿ         By impacting parents, teachers and children, the church will also grow and be strengthened.

Ÿ         Individuals within the community will be empowered.

Ÿ         Uniting the community through joint projects such as school.

Sustainability of the project

Ÿ         A sad reality is that Community Schools cannot really become self-sustaining. After all, they were started because they could not afford government education. But we do hope to gradually withdraw after equipping the teachers, so they can effectively run the school together with the parents and pastors. We will do this through empowering all those involved in the schools.  We realize that this is a long term strategy.

Ÿ         To a certain extent, the schools will always be dependent on sponsors who pay teachers and cooks and provide the necessary funds to feed the children daily. Yet, parents at both schools have started a vegetable garden on the school premises to help supplement the meals provided for their children.

Ÿ         Each term we will conduct one workshop with the teachers to continue equipping them and building into them.

Ÿ         Teachers will be trained and assisted to continue with the social and health work.

Ÿ         Teachers will be trained to help with the adult literacy programs and  the teaching of English skills.

Future Plans

Ÿ         To continue raising the physical standard of the buildings and to create an outdoor play ground.

Ÿ         To raise the quality of education through more workshops to inspire young trainees doing their practicals , to excellence in education.

Ÿ         To enlarge the gardening project at the school.

Ÿ         Involving the parents in future building projects.

Ÿ         Raising sponsorships to help single and double orphans.

Ÿ         Extra English and computer training for children and parents.

It will also serve to better equip missionaries working in ‘Minus 30’ areas where schools are poorly run and where adult literacy and English skills provide opportunities to serving the communities.

We are in need of sponsorship for:

A filing cabinet, files and plastic sleeves

Stationery: pens, felt pens, rulers, scissors, glue, clear tape, project paper

Materials to make teaching aids, like rope, paint, paint brushes, etc.

Transport money to do regular practicals in the schools
