Progress being made on Ila translation

Ken and our co-worker Kapasa trained two Ila translators to use teh Adapt-It Bible translation program. Translators are trained not to do word for word translations. Because the grammar of languages differs so greatly a word for word translation from the English into Ila even from Hebrew or Greek into the Ila language would give a confusing and unnatural translation.

Kapasa (center) works with two Ila translators Richard Mukang'ombe and Rev Chikanta.

However if the grammars of two languages are very similiar there is new computer program called Adapt-It that allows translators to build upon an already exisiting translation. In our case the Ila and Tonga languages are very similiar. The entire Bible is done in Tonga and it is also very closely related to the Ila language. So with this new computer program we're able to greatly speed up the translation work.

Kapasa and Rev Chikanta show the book of Habbakuk that was recently drafted.

The local Ila commitee also purchased supplies for the office building.
